K-2 Rec Basketball and Junior Lakers 4v4 Basketball League
We are looking forward to another great season of Junior Lakers Basketball! Tryouts are underway this week for our Travel teams, and today we are opening registration for our K-2 Rec program, as well as a new Junior Lakers 4v4 League, for non-travel participants in grades 3 through 6.
We hope this new structure will provide a competitive option for those who want to improve their game or just play some ball. Participants in the Junior Lakers 4v4 League can expect to be assigned to a team with a coach, receive a t-shirt-style jersey, and play in regular season games followed by playoffs. We plan to post league standings and playoff results on our website.
Junior Lakers 4v4 will begin with skills and scrimmage sessions in December. We expect to start the regular season in January. We plan to have two divisions for boys and two divisions for girls: one for 3rd and 4th graders, and one for 5th and 6th graders. Travel team participants are welcome to join the new league as well, but we will handle that registration process separately. Participants should expect one or two sessions per week throughout the winter. Since this is new, we will make adjustments as needed to ensure a fun and competitive league.
Our K-2 Rec program will take place on Saturday mornings, introducing the game of basketball in a fun way while developing the fundamentals for success on the court in the future. We have engaged a local basketball program coordinator to develop a roadmap and to staff each session with a head coach. However, Junior Lakers is an organization that relies heavily on parent volunteers. A well-run clinic requires at least three parents to volunteer as assistants (no basketball expertise required!).
If you are willing to step up and help our little ones in K-2 learn the game, or are interested in volunteering as a coach in Junior Lakers 4v4, please send an email to info.jrlakerbasketball@
